What is Kyocera Opal?
Kyocera Opal — commercially branded as Bello Opal® — is a lab-grown synthetic opal produced by Kyocera Corporation of Japan. It is the only commercially available man-made opal that contains at least 80% silica, the same primary mineral found in natural precious opal. This high silica content gives Bello Opal its signature characteristics:
- Vertical fire pattern — A columnar growth structure visible on the side of the stone, producing authentic play-of-color
- Color permanence — Unlike opal-like plastic (OLP) which yellows over time, Bello Opal's color and fire are permanent
- Heat resistance — Withstands temperatures up to 130°C, suitable for jewelry plating and metalwork
- Hardness — Similar to natural opal (5-6.5 on Mohs scale)
